Genmaicha

When we experience blood sugar spikes or crashes, we feel irritable and may have unhealthy food cravings or fatigue, sometimes referred to as ‘being hangry’. However, like hojicha, genmaicha works to balance blood sugar levels, making it a safe tea for diabetics. If you find yourself craving unhealthy foods or snacks, drink a cup of genmaicha to help control your cravings.

EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) is an antioxidant found in all green teas, including genmaicha. Studies show that this antioxidant supports cell damage prevention and multiple types of cancer including bladder, ovary, and pancreatic cancer. Studies show that EGCG suppresses cancer growing cells.

In addition to lowering cancer risks, genmaicha also decreases bad cholesterol (LDL, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) and increases good cholesterol (HDL, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol) to lower the risk of heart disease. The selenium found in genmaicha stimulates blood flow which can help reduce blood clots. Especially since heart disease is a growing concern throughout the world, drinking a cup of genmaicha a day may help maintain your heart’s health.

Orange

Orange contains vitamin C, a notable water-soluble antioxidant. Vitamin C is able to protect the cells from oxidative damage, thus prevents cell damage. According to study, every cell in the body contains DNA, which is vulnerable to damage, or mutations especially when the cell is exposed to oxidative radicals. Vitamin C helps neutralizing these radicals, prevent this mutation, thus protecting the cells from various damages.

In addition to vitamin C, oranges have other nutrients that keep our body healthy. Oranges contain fibers that keep our colon healthy, calcium that helps building strong bone, and folic acid that is essential for the body to create DNA and divide cells, Other than that, oranges are rich in potassium, a mineral that regulates heart beat and muscle function. Potassium has been shown to lower blood pressure. A sour compound known as citric acid is also found in the oranges. These citric acid is capable of altering the pH levels in the urine and prevent the formation of kidney stones.
